Man Shot Several Times Driving On Highland Park Roadway: Police

Police said the man was listed in critical condition at Henry Ford Hospital as of Thursday morning.

HIGHLAND PARK, MI — A man was shot several times Wednesday night while driving in Highland Park, according to Michigan State Police. He was listed in critical condition at Henry Ford Hospital on Thursday morning.

Officials said the 61-year-old Ypsilanti man was driving westbound on the Davison Freeway near Conant Street in Highland Park in a Honda Odyssey, while a silver SUV was following him.

When the Ypsilanti man exited the Davison Freeway at Oakland Avenue, someone fired numerous rounds at the Honda, striking the Ypsilanti driver multiple times, officials said. A passenger in the van was not struck by the gunshots, and was not injured in the shooting, officials said.

The Honda van was riddled with bullet holes from the gunfire, state troopers said.

Officials did not identify the shooter, their vehicle or a motive as of Thursday morning. Officials did collect evidence from the scene where the shooting happened, as the investigation continues.
