Metro Detroit Winter Storm: Here Are Expected Snow Totals
The heaviest snow will fall east along a line from Chelsea through metro Detroit to Port Huron, according to the National Weather Service.
METRO DETROIT — All of southeastern Michigan is under a winter storm warning Wednesday as a snowstorm could dump up to 8 inches of snow across most areas in the region, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning is in effect for Wayne, Washtenaw, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, St. Clair, Sanilac and Lenawee counties through 9 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Snow began falling Wednesday morning and will pick up rapidly through the late morning and afternoon hours before diminishing around 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest snow will fall east along a line from Chelsea through metro Detroit to Port Huron between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. when 1 inch of snow can fall per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
The entire metro Detroit area will see between 6 and 8 inches of snow with the highest accumulations south of Interstate 94 toward the Ohio border, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas north of metro Detroit toward Interstate 69 and the thumb region will see sightly less snowfall with 3 to 6 inches expected, as the heaviest snow stays south/southeast of the areas, according to the National Weather Service.
Here's the extended National Weather Service's outlook for metro Detroit:
Wednesday: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 33 degrees. East northeast wind 11 to 17 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 25 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of around 6 inches.
Thursday: Cloudy, with a high near 31 degrees. Blustery, with a west northwest wind 10 to 18 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 25 miles per hour.
Friday: A chance of snow after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33 degrees. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 10 to 15 miles per hour increasing to 19 to 24 miles per hour in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 36 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29 degrees.
Sunday: A chance of snow before 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29 degrees.
