MI State Police Stop 75 Drivers On Southfield Freeway, Give 64 Tickets

METRO DETROIT — Michigan State Police said they stopped 75 drivers Thursday on the Southfield Freeway during a speed limit crackdown.

After receiving numerous complaints about reckless drivers and speeders driving over the 55 miles per hour speed limit on the freeway, state police decided to conduct a special operation.

Of the 75 drivers state troopers stopped Thursday, officers gave out 64 tickets and arrested one person who had a felony child abuse warrant, police said.

State troopers also said 22 drivers were driving on a suspended license.

While conducting the traffic stops, troopers said they heard lots of excuses, including: "Didn’t know the speed limit," "No one drives 55 so just change the limit," "Shouldn’t have urban freeways," "It’s the end of the month…not sure what that means" and "Can’t you fix the potholes?"

However, troopers said they also received lots of compliments and there were no crashes on the freeway during the special operation.
