More Thunderstorm Chances Monday In Metro Detroit

The heaviest rainfall should clear out of the region by Monday night just as the 2023 Ford Fireworks are scheduled to begin​ in Detroit.

METRO DETROIT — More showers and thunderstorms are expected in the metro Detroit area Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The rain showers with possible rumbles of thunder are expected to cross the region sometime in the afternoon and evening hours when temperatures reach the mid 70s, the weather service said.

Although forecasters do not expect any severe weather Monday, the showers could bring pockets of heavy rainfall and gusty winds to some isolated areas, the weather service said.

However, some scattered showers in the region will linger into Tuesday morning, before fading away during the afternoon hours when temperatures top out in the mid-70s, the weather service said.

A round of severe thunderstorms rolled through metro Detroit on Sunday evening, knocking out power to over 70,000 DTE customers in the region.

Here's the National Weather Service's extended look at metro Detroit:

Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 10 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 74 degrees. Southwest wind 9 to 11 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 20 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Showers likely, mainly before 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61 degrees. West southwest wind 8 to 10 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 18 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 80 degrees. North northwest wind around 9 miles per hour.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82 degrees.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 84 degrees.
