Nearly 500,000 SUVs Recalled By GM Due To Seatbelt Safety Concerns

DETROIT, MI — General Motors is recalling nearly 500,000 vehicles due to concerns about unsafe seatbelts.

“A seat belt with a deformed rivet may not properly restrain an occupant, increasing the risk of injury during a crash,” the administration said.

Among the 484,155 potentially affected vehicles are certain 2021-22 Cadillac Escalades, Escalade ESVs, Chevrolet Suburbans, Tahoes, GMC Yukons, and Yukon XLs equipped with third-row seats, according to the administration.
“The rivet that retains the buckle to the mounting bracket in the left or right side third-row seat belt buckle assembly may have been improperly formed,” the administration said.

The company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue. To correct the problem, dealers must inspect the relevant rivet head formations and replace seat belt buckle assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 26, 2022.
