Rare, Potentially Destructive Bugs Found At Detroit Metro Airport (patch.com) — Travelers using Detroit Metro Airport may be interested to know that federal agriculture specialists there intercepted a rare species of giant scale insect earlier this year, preventing it from entering the country. The pests, discovered on pine bark carried from Cameroon, can lay thousands of eggs and seriously damage trees and shrubs, highlighting Detroit's role as a frontline checkpoint for protecting U.S. agriculture.
   

2. Midtown Detroit Coffee Shop Closing Down (patch.com) — Coffee lovers in Midtown Detroit will soon lose a familiar spot as The Red Hook prepares to close its Woodward Avenue cafe on Sept. 26 after three years.
