The 37-year-old, who chose to stay anonymous, took a lump-sum payout of about $1.3 million and says he'll save what's left after paying bills. His win highlights another big Michigan Lottery payout tied directly to a Detroit retailer.

Detroit's Senate Theater celebrates 100 years (clickondetroit.com) — Detroit's historic Senate Theater is marking its 100th birthday this week with special events on Oct. 7 and Oct. 10, including celebrations of its famed Wurlitzer organ. Detroit to Host Three-Day Hearth Summit on Wellbeing and Social Change (michiganchronicle.com) — Detroit will host the three-day Hearth Summit on wellbeing and social change Oct. 8–10, with sessions at MOCAD, Kintsugi Village in Corktown, and The Love Building. Up to 200 participants will explore trauma, resilience, food systems, sustainability and gentrification through art, movement, and discussion, with registration and scholarship details available online.

Several say they paid hundreds of dollars, struggled with communication for months, and are now relying on credit card disputes to try to recover their money.
   

5. Retired Detroit Tigers in-game announcer receives life-saving kidney transplant (wxyz.com) — A longtime Detroit sports announcer who worked Tigers and Lions games is preparing to return to work after a life-saving kidney transplant at Henry Ford Health. A fan's donation through a kidney exchange made his surgery possible, and he's now focused on recovering and getting back behind the microphone for upcoming games.
