Sierra Nevada Recalls Affect Bottles in Michigan with ‘Packaging Flaw’

Michigan was among 36 states where flaw may cause glass to break off and possibly fall in the bottle, cause beer to go flat.

Sierra Nevada is voluntarily recalling some select 12-ounce bottles of its beers , including those sold in Michigan, because they may contain a “small” glass packaging flaw that could cause a loss in carbonation and result in a piece of glass to break off and possibly fall into the bottle, the company announced in a press release Sunday. The recall affects 36 states in the Midwest, South and East Coast.

Sierra Nevada said the flaw was detected after quality inspections at their brewery in North Carolina. The company said it has not received any consumer reports of injuries and is working with suppliers to determine the root cause of the issue.

The following brand, packages and production dates are impacted by the recall:

  • Pale Ale, 12-ounce bottles in 6-, 12- and 24-pack (case) formats, production dates between 12/5/16 - 1/8/17
  • Torpedo Extra IPA, 12-ounce bottles in 6-, 12- and 24-pack (case) formats, production dates between 12/5/16 - 1/13/17
  • Tropical Torpedo, 12-ounce bottles in 6-pack format, production dates between 12/5/16 - 1/13/17
  • Sidecar Orange Pale Ale, 12-ounce bottles in 6-, 12- and 24-pack (case) formats, production dates between 12/5/16 - 1/13/17
  • Beer Camp Golden IPA, 12-ounce bottles in 6-, 12- and 24-pack (case) formats, production dates between 12/5/16 - 1/13/17
  • Otra Vez, 12-ounce bottles in 6-pack format, production dates between 12/5/16 - 1/13/17
  • Nooner, 12-ounce bottles in 6-pack format, production dates between 12/5/16 - 1/13/17
  • Hop Hunter IPA, 12-ounce bottles in 6-, 12- and 24-pack (case) formats, production dates between 12/5/16 - 1/13/17
