Storms Possible Tuesday As Hot Temps Linger: Metro Detroit Weather
Pop-up showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening hours, according to the National Weather Service.
METRO DETROIT — Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible Tuesday in the metro Detroit area as temperatures push near record heat, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologists do not expect any widespread thunderstorms Tuesday, but said any storm that pops up in the metro Detroit region could produce heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and wind gusts reaching up to 30 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
The pop-up showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening hours when temperatures reach the low 90s with heat indices climbing toward triple-digits, according to the National Weather Service.

The record high temperature for the metro area on Sept. 5 is 93 degrees, which was set in 2018, according to the National Weather Service.
A greater chance for thunderstorms in the metro area comes Wednesday afternoon when a cold front moves into the area, according to the National Weather Service.

Those thunderstorms are expected to be severe, especially for those west of Interstate 75 in the Metro Detroit area, according to the National Weather Service.
More rain showers are expected on Thursday and Friday in the metro area as high temperatures drop into the 70s, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 90 degrees. South southwest wind 7 to 11 miles per hour.
Wednesday: A chance of showers between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 86 degrees. South southwest wind 9 to 14 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 20 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
Thursday: A chance of showers after 9 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 78 degrees. West southwest wind 6 to 10 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
Friday: A chance of showers after 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 71 degrees.
