Watch: President Trump Speaks At Michigan MAGA Rally

President Donald Trump skips a big night in Washington, D.C., to spend time with his Michigan supporters Saturday. Watch live here.

WASHINGTON, MI — President Donald Trump spoke for more than an hour to a crowd of supporters at a "Make America Great Again" rally on Saturday, encouraging his fans to vote out Democrats, including Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow and others who oppose his agenda. In a rambling address, he bounced from topic-to-topic, telling the crowd of some 4,00o supporters that he's working to bring back community colleges and vocational schools, build the U.S.-Mexico border wall to stop illegal immigration, and has cut taxes to grow the economy.

"We’re going to be proud of America again," said Trump, drawing cheers from the crowd that was dotted with red Make America Great Again hats and people waving American flags. "We're going to stand up for the American people. We are no longer going to apologize for Americans."

Trump also made many references to the Great Lakes State during the address.

"We’re doing to stand up for places like Detroit that need help and stand up for states like Michigan ... This is the state that gave us Motown, the Mustang and the might of the American Midwest."

A crowd of 30,000 t0 40,000 people gathered in anticipation for Trump's appearance. The venue, at the Total Sports Park, had a capacity of 4,000 people. Those who didn't get inside for the hall were able to watch on a giant screen outside the venue.

Inside the Total Sports Park venue, where the president is scheduled to appear after 7 p.m., Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette led the crowd in anti-Hillary Clinton cheers and reminded voters that Trump defeated Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. A sea of red hats proclaiming “Make America Great Again” waited for Trump to arrive.

Some supporters, like Susan Marks of West Bloomfield, stood outside for hours to attend the rally in Washington, Michigan, a Macomb County community north of Detroit. This is her first rally but she said she’s been a supporter “since day one.”

“He’s a wonderful man and a great president,” she said. “I like his love for his country and I think he’s a good person.”

Marks said she didn’t care what he spoke about at the rally, she was just excited to hear him speak.

Meanwhile, several dozen protestors chanted at the entrance of the venue. Locals like Chelsea Krause, of nearby Romeo, came on her own to hold a homemade sign saying, “I often wonder how weak you must feel to look at Donald trump and see strength.”

She said she wants to make a difference as a young person and hopefully “start a conversation,” she said.
As cars passed her some people hissed and called her names.

“(Expletive) idiot!” one Trump supporter shouted at her.

“I knew we’d be out numbered but this here is the exact point, that we get to be in a country like this,” Krause said. “I’m not for a particular party, I just want someone I can be proud of leading our country.”

Trump's visit takes place at the same time as the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, traditionally attended by the president. Friday on Facebook Trump called the event a "fake news prom" and said he rather be with people who want to "Make America Great Again" in Michigan. Trump skipped out on the press event last year, too, to host a rally in Pennsylvania.

Organizers behind the rally had this to say about coming to Michigan this year: "While the fake news media will be celebrating themselves with the denizens of Washington society in the swamp that evening, President Trump will be in a completely different Washington, celebrating our national economic revival with patriotic Americans."
