Kaine to Stump in Detroit Sunday, Cher in Bloomfield Hills for Hillary

Look for other political luminaries in our state this week: Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, Ben Carson all expected.

(Originally posted on Oct. 26, 2016) DETROIT, MI — Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine is headed back to Metro Detroit Sunday to help shore up support for Hillary Clinton among union members in Macomb County, according to The Detroit News.

Kaine will speak at a Sunday evening rally at the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights union hall on Mound Road in Warren. U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Millwrights President Doug McCarron and Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights President Mike Jackson also are scheduled to speak at the rally, according to a media advisory.

The event begins at 6 p.m. and doors will open at 4 p.m. at the union hall at 23401 Mound Road.
Kaine is expected to attend one other public event Sunday in Metro Detroit, but the Clinton campaign has not yet announced details.

Also, Hillary Clinton's campaign said Cher will perform a Halloween fundraiser Monday in Bloomfield Hills, the Detroit Press is reporting. The Clinton campaign is billing Monday’s Cher fundraiser as “a once-in-a-lifetime evening to share with friends and other Hillary supporters” eight days before Election Day, according to a fundraiser invitation.

Kaine’s trip to Metro Detroit will follow a flurry of presidential race campaigning in Michigan over the next three days.

Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson is planning a rally Friday evening at Cobo Center in Detroit after Green Party candidate Jill Stein is scheduled to speak 2 p.m. Friday at the Redford Theatre in Detroit.

Dr. Ben Carson, a Detroit native, will campaign for Trump in the state on Saturday, said Tim Lineberger, spokesman for Trump’s Michigan campaign.

Kaine’s trip to Macomb County marks his second campaign stop in southeast Michigan in the past two weeks.
On Oct. 18, the Virginia senator gave a policy-heavy speech on combating poverty in Detroit, which remains America’s poorest city.

According to a Real Clear Politics polling average, Clinton has a 10-point lead over Trump in Michigan, 47.5 percent to 37.5 percent, in a four-way race with Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Nationally, the race is closer. The Real Clear Politics national polling average shows Clinton leading Trump 48.3 percent to 43.2 percent in a four-way race.

Kaine has previously campaigned in Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor since joining Clinton’s ticket at the Democratic National Convention in late July.
