Woman Struck, Killed By DDOT Bus In Downtown Detroit: Officials

Police said the woman was using a walker to cross a downtown intersection Friday morning when the bus struck her.

DETROIT — A woman was killed Friday morning after she was struck by a Detroit Department of Transportation bus in downtown Detroit, officials said.

Police said the woman was using a walker in the crosswalk at the intersection of Congress and Griswold streets at 7:30 a.m. when she was struck by the bus.

Officials have identified the woman, but did not release her name until police contact the family.

Officials said the driver of the bus was removed and will not be allowed to drive a bus until an internal investigation is completed.

The bus driver, who has been with DDOT for 26 years, will also be tested for drugs and alcohol, officials said.

Once police complete the investigation, they will forward their findings to the Wayne County Prosecutor, officials said.

City officials are also looking into the incident to review the city’s practices and determine if any steps should be taken to prevent tragedies in the future, officials said.
