Dexter Chamber of Commerce Launches New Website

The new site includes a business directory and event calendar.

In keeping with its goal of educating the local community, the has unveiled its new member website.

“Our website is one of our membership benefits, and our previous website needed a boost,” said Abby Erickson, the chamber's executive director.

Erickson said the chamber board had established a website task force this year that was charged with researching other chamber and tourist websites in order to include new elements on the Dexter site.

“We were very lucky to work with Laurie Kokmeyer and Tracey Mayrand of for our redesign,” Erickson said. “They are very easy to work with and talented.

"As professionals, they knew things that we needed that we didn’t think of ourselves," she said. "As chamber members, they had ideas that would benefit to them as well as other members, so it was a great partnership.”

Kokmeyer, a graduate of Dexter High School, said developing a website tailored individually to a client is one of the business' chief challenges.

"We really care about the success of our clients’ businesses. We act as teammates by providing face-to-face interactions, listening to our customers' needs and developing sites that bring out their visions," she said.

The site includes an updated business directory that allows chamber members to post information about their business and an online donation page for chamber event sponsorships. For tourists outside of the community, the site includes a news tab with links to relevant stories and an alphabetical search option.

"We have made as many things (as possible) linkable on the website so that when people find what they are looking for, they can move on," Erickson said. "I think that this is the most important aspect of a website like ours.

"My hope for this website is that it brings more people into the village," she said. "The chamber is an advocate for business in our area, and if we can create something like this that aids in generating more business, then we have done our job.

"This is why we didn’t just limit our website to a hub for chamber members, Erickson said. "By opening it up a little, we can paint a picture of why you need to visit Dexter."
