Dexter Youth Join Chelsea Area Players for 40th Anniversary Showcase

"CAPtivating Rhythms" will feature songs from classic musicals, including 'Guys and Dolls' and 'The Sound of Music,' on July 20-22 in Chelsea.

The Chelsea Area Players will celebrate its 40th anniversary by presenting a musical review titled "CAPtivating Rhythms" on July 20-22.

The show will feature songs from the group's 96 plays and musicals during the past 40 years, focusing on musicals from the last 10 years. The show will take place at the Washington Street Education Center, 512 E. Washington St. in Chelsea.

Carrie Jay Sayer of Dexter will direct the show. Sayer has been heavily involved as a director and performer at Dexter’s . Her involvement with CAP began in the 1980s. Sayer’s 30-person cast features many CAP Youth Theater participants as well as veterans of other CAP productions.

"CAPtivating Rhythms" will feature musical numbers from Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, Godspell, Guys and Dolls, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Music Man, and The Sound of Music. There will be an alumni reunion reception after the Saturday night performance. 

The cast includes Eve Beauchamp, Leigh Beauchamp, Zoe Bowers, John Daly, Nancy Daly, Shelby Kasenow, Sophie Peterson, Carolyn Pierce, Beverly Slater and June Weiland from Chelsea; Brent Lofgren from Ann Arbor; Zach Husak, Janine Modafferi, Paula Modafferi, Rachel Modafferi, Mark Venden Heuvel and Hava Roussel from Dexter; Diane DuRussel from Manchester; Laura Bailey and Julie Skrobot from Howell; Emmi Veinbergs from Pinckney; Ethan Baker, Clayton Baker, Leslie Kucinkas and Amanda Laine from Saline; Todd St. George from Tipton; and Maya Rich from Ypsilanti. Ruth Ann Windle from Brooklyn is the accompanist.

Show times are 7 p.m. on July 20 and July 21. There will be a 3 p.m. matinee on July 22. Tickets are available at www.ChelseaAreaPlayer.org or at the Chelsea Pharmacy, 1125 South Main St.
