"We were looking for a business that wanted to share our 12,000 square feet," Lee Jenkins, executive director of Generations Together said about the partnership. "We also wanted something that would compliment what we do here, so we reached out to a number of business, but NewPoint was No. 1 on our list."

A wide variety of services are available for students in Dexter and the surrounding communities, including: tutoring, instruction, homework help, study and organizational skills, ACT/SAT preparation, and test proctoring.

"In addition to the classes we will offer, we are always available for private one-on-one tutoring," Melanie Gill, center director said.

Gill opened NewPoint in Ann Arbor with her husband Ken Adams a year ago, and has seen the number of students seeking academic help slowly rising.

"We receive students from Dexter, Manchester, Chelsea and other parts of western Washtenaw County. It made sense to open a second location in Dexter so families wouldn't have to drive further to Ann Arbor," she said.

Gill said there are many aspects of NewPoint Learning Center that sets it apart from other similar tutoring companies.

"Students take whatever classes they need. There are no long-term contracts," she said. "Our services are tailored to the individual. Someone might come for a week, and another student might decide he or she needs to come for several weeks."

As for the tutors, Gill said the company has about 15 certified teachers on staff.

"NewPoint’s tutoring staff is the best," she said. "We only hire people with teaching experience, and those that love to teach."

Jenkins said she is excited to see NewPoint open a branch in the community.

"Our building is surrounded by the Dexter schools. Students can literally walk over here after class during the school year and receive extra help with their studies," she said. "It's a great fit for our community."

Classes will be held at Generations Together located at 2801 Baker Road. To register for tutoring assistance, or for more information, contact NewPoint Learning Center at 734-213-3695 or visit www.newpointlearninga2.info.
