'The Last Five Years' Coming to Dexter's Encore Musical Theatre

will continue its “Encore on the Edge” series with the hit musical, The Last Five Years beginning May 26.

The Last Five Years is an emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their 20s who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. The show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.

Jason Robert Brown, composer of The Last Five Years, won Drama Desk Awards for the music and the lyrics after the Off-Broadway premiere in 2002. The show has since been produced at almost every major regional theater in the United States, and has been seen in Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Germany, Italy, Canada, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The cast of The Last Five Years will feature two Encore favorites, Thalia Schramm as Cathy and Steve DeBruyne as Jamie.  Schramm last performed as Sarah Brown in Guys & Dolls, Meg in Little Women and Olive in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  DeBruyne has been seen in many roles at The Encore including Clarence in It’s a Wonderful Life The Musical, Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, and Frankie in Forever Plaid.

The Encore’s production of The Last Five Years will run for eight performances only, May 26 through June 5.  Tickets are on sale now by visiting the website at http://theencoretheatre.org or by calling the box office at 734-268-6200. Tickets are $22 for adults, $19 for seniors and $19 for youth.
