Public Forum for Dexter's Master Plan Draws Minor Attendance
The updated master plan will be sent to the Dexter Village Council for approval in 2012.

A public forum to address Dexter Village's revised master plan drew attendance in the single digits on Monday.
The Planning Commission held an informal forum at the to solicit feedback on its draft plan, which is slated for adoption in 2012.
According to Planning Consultant Doug Lewan, state law requires municipalities to update their master plan every five years to reflect their goals for future land use.

“We want to hear about the needs and desires of the residents,” Lewan said.
According to material provided by Lewan, one of the goals of the new plan involves the mixed use of both the Dexter-Ann Arbor and Baker Road corridors.

The objective with the Dexter-Ann Arbor corridor is to encourage development of that area separate from downtown while allowing it to serve the needs of Dexter’s growing population.
Lewan assured residents at the forum that the proposed corridor plans were not meant to encourage competition between the corridor and the existing downtown area.
“We don’t want this to compete with downtown businesses," he said.
