2 Hurt After Driver Crashes Stolen Car In Farmington Hills Chase: MSP

Two teens were injured Tuesday night in a crash on Interstate 696 in Farmington Hills, according to Michigan State Police.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — Two teens were injured Tuesday night in a crash on Interstate 696 in Farmington Hills, according to Michigan State Police.

Troopers spotted a white Dodge Challenger with a dealer's plate at 9 p.m. going north on the Lodge Freeway near Telegraph Road in Southfield, police said.

Troopers learned the Challenger was stolen after checking the plate, police said.

When troopers tried stopping the Challenger, the driver sped away onto westbound Interstate 696, police said.

The Challenger's driver tried to split traffic near Orchard Lake Road and drove onto the freeway's shoulder to try and pass a Lincoln SUV, police said.

The Challenger struck the Lincoln and the Challenger's driver lost control of the car, which then flipped numerous times on the roadway, police said.

Troopers found the driver of the Challenger lying in a ditch unconscious but breathing, after he was thrown roughly 20 feet from the car, police said.

The Challenger's driver, a 16-year-old boy from Detroit, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Troopers also found a 17-year-old girl in the Challenger, police said. Troopers said she was also taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers added the 16-year-old boy, who was driving the stolen Challenger, did not have a driver license. Troopers also found a handgun near the car, police said.

Officials did not release any names.

No further information was released by police. Officials were still investigating the crash.
