Drivers Were Wrong and Wrong: Police

In a pair of incidents, one on I-696 in Farmington Hills and the other on I-94 in Detroit, motorists were allegedly drunk.

Authorities aren’t calling it a trend, but Michigan State Police stopped two motorists for driving the wrong way early Saturday morning in separate incidents.

Police received the first tip about a driver heading the wrong way on Interstate 696 in Farmington Hills at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, The Detroit News reports.

Police located the errant driver on freeway cameras, and before a trooper could pull him over, the motorist allegedly hit another vehicle.

A 62-year-old Belleville man was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage crash. He is being held at Oakland County Jail.

Then, at 1:15 a.m., State Police were called to Interstate 94 on another tip of a wrong-way driver driving eastbound in the westbound lanes

A trooper was able to avoid a collision with the motorist, passed the vehicle and stopped in front of it, forcing the driver to stop. The 39-year-old Detroit man also was arrested on drunken driving charges. He allegedly had a high blood alcohol content and is being held at the Detroit Detention Center police said.
