Farmington Hills, MI . . . In an unprecedented accomplishment at the youth hockey level, all six Tier One teams representing the state of Michigan at USA Hockey’s National Tournament are from the Honeybaked Hockey Club, based in Farmington Hills, MI. Three Honeybaked teams on each side of the Boys and Girls divisions are headed to the National Championships which start this Wednesday; the Girls teams are off to San Jose, California and the boys to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Honeybaked 14U, 16U and 19U Girls teams set the bar high sweeping three age divisions of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association State Championships the weekend of March 8-10 at the Taylor Sportsplex. The Honeybaked 14U Tier 1 state title was decided after three overtime periods when the Honeybaked team, coached by Danny Veri, beat Little Caesars 2 -1.
The Honeybaked 16U team, coached by Lyle Phair, took things to an even higher level of drama, with a championship game that had over 100 shots before Honeybaked’s Lea Boreland scored with 1:40 left in the SEVENTH overtime to beat out Little Caesars 16U by a score of 2-1. The Honeybaked 19U team, coached by Ryan Pardoski, rounded out the trio - winning the state title for the second year in a row and beating Belle Tire in the 19U State Championship game. All three Honeybaked Girls teams now travel to San Jose, California to compete for the National Championship in each age division, starting this Wednesday, April 3rd.

The Tier 1 Boys Championships at the, 14U (1998), 16U (Midget Minor) and 18U (Midget Major) levels, were decided the weekend on March 15-17, also at the Taylor Sportsplex. Honeybaked ’98 captured the Bantam Major (14U) state title defeating High Performance Hockey League rival Compuware by a score of 2-0. The Honeybaked 98 team is coached by former NHL right wing, Pat Peake and his assistant coach, former NHL defenseman, Kevin Hatcher.
Honeybaked’s Midget Minor team (16U), led by Coach Rob Krohl, captured the state title after playing a three-game set against rival, Belle Tire for the State title; prevailing in the final game by a score of 4-2 . The Honeybaked Midget Major team (18U), coached by Steve Dickinson, also advanced to the National tournament after beating Compuware by a score of 5-3. All three Honeybaked Boys teams will head to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for their National Tournament games starting this week.

In the history of the USA Hockey National Championships, the Honeybaked Hockey Club is proud to have won Six National Championships at the Boys Tier One level, with two teams as runners-up to the title. At the Girls Tier One level, Honeybaked has had One National Title team and four runners-up.

Honeybaked Hockey is a Tier I travel level hockey organization started in 1994 by Lou Schmidt (currently the president of Honeybaked Ham Company). Girls hockey teams were added at the 12U, 14U, 16U and 19U in 1997.
