BOOST OUR BANDS WITH YOUR BOTTLES AND CANS!
Over 200 band and orchestra students and parents descend on Farmington Hills to collect $5000 in cans and bottles.
On April 30, 2016, nearly 200 students and parents from the North Farmington High School Bands and Orchestras will descend on north Farmington Hills’ neighborhoods for our annual Bottle and Can Drive! This yearly fundraiser, organized by the NFHS Band & Orchestra Boosters, hopes to raise over $5000 to support music education at North Farmington. “The money raised will help purchase and repair instruments, hire clinicians for specialized instruction, purchase music and supplies and provide scholarships for band camp,” said Paul Garland, director of this year’s effort.
The event will also directly benefit each young musician who participates. All money raised will be shared 50/50 with the students who volunteer their time. This helps them earn their way to band camp, and pay for private lessons and instrument repairs. “We want our kids to take ownership of their education and to see a payoff for their hard work,” said Garland.
The North Farmington Band and Orchestra Boosters are asking north Farmington Hills residents to save all returnables- bottles and cans- and place them in bags outside of their homes for the kids to pick up on Saturday. The group will also provide a drive-up/drop-off option during this year's event. For those interested, bring your cans and bottle to the back of the school between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on April 30. “This is a great way to get friends and family members involved that live outside of our collection areas,” commented Garland. “We want all the cans and bottles we can get!"

Watch for our yellow lawn signs at the entrances to your neighborhood. With the community’s support, we will continue to provide the highest quality music education program for the students and parents of NFHS. “The importance of supporting music education at our schools can’t be overstated,” said Michael Yoskovich, Director of Bands for NFHS. “We know that student’s test scores improve when they take music classes. We’ve always known that smart kids take music. Now we know that music education makes smarter kids.”
