Random Thoughts And Musings about Downtown Farmington

Observations along with things I wish were so about our little slice of Americana called Downtown Farmington. Please feel free to add your own in the discussion area.

- I wish the Meantobe Café stayed open later so I could enjoy a coffee and maybe even a desert after a movie at the Civic.

- It’s nice to see most people finally starting to obey the “no left turn” sign on eastbound Grand River turning onto Farmington Rd.  When it first changed, EVERYONE seemed to ignore it.

- I wish more business stayed open late enough for me to visit them after I get off work.  I hate going to malls and big box stores.  I would much rather spend my money with a local merchant but it’s kind of hard to do when they are closed when I can do my shopping.

- I really think there needs to be someplace the 14 to 17-year-old’s in our community can hang out without getting into trouble.  Ritchie and Potsy never got into too much trouble at Arnolds!  OK, I got into a little trouble at the drive in I used to hang out at as a teen, but not as much as I would have without it.

- I wish there were room for more outdoor / café type seating along Grand River.

- I wish Downtown more easily connected to Shiawassee Park and there were signs pointing the way.  I wonder how many people that visit downtown don’t even know it’s there?

- I think it’s really wonderful that the barber shop at the corner of Grand River and Farmington lets the local schools and sport teams use their front window for display’s throughout the year.

- I wonder if more families would visit Riley Park if there were a small playground with swings, sandbox, playscape and the like in one corner?

- Would a rolling street vendor with balloons, pretzels, soft-drinks, pop-corn and candy etc. be a nice addition and create more foot traffic or would it just take business away from brick and mortar establishments?

TBC…
