Christmas, New Year's Delay Trash Collection, Plus City Hall Hours for the Holidays

Most wrapping paper is recyclable. Trees can be dropped off for free recycling at Glen Oaks Golf Course.

Garbage and recycling collection will not occur on Thursday, Dec. 25, due to the Christmas Day holiday and or on Thursday, Jan. 1, due to the New Year’s Day holiday, the city of Farmington Hills said in a news release.

During both holiday weeks, arbage pickup will be delayed by one day with Thursday’s pickup occurring on Friday and Friday’s pickup occurring on Saturday.

Regular pickups will occur on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and on Wednesday, Dec. 31.

To ensure pickup, please have garbage at the curbside by 7 a.m.

Holiday cards and wrapping paper can go in your recycling cart, but any cards or wrapping paper with glitter or metallics are not recyclable and should go in with the regular trash. Aluminum holiday cookie tins and lids can also go in your recycling cart.

Christmas Tree Disposal

Christmas trees can be dropped off for free self-serve recycling at Glen Oaks Golf Course from December 26 through January 20, seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the east end of the clubhouse parking lot at 30500 W. Thirteen Mile, just east of Orchard Lake Road. Trees must be free of all lights, decorations, and tinsel. Large quantities from commercial lots will not be accepted. Trees placed at the curbside will be collected with the regular trash.

City Office Hours

City offices will be closed on both Christmas and New Year’s Day, as well as on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19, and on Presidents’ Day on Monday, Feb. 16, but garbage collection will take place on the regularly scheduled pickup day.
