CPR Saves Lives, But Not If You Can't Perform It

CPR has been around since the 1700s, but most Americans don't know how to perform it. A class in Farmington Hills covers using CPR and AEDs.

Performed properly and immediately to sudden cardiac arrest victims, CPR can save lives. The use of the technique dates back to 1740, but even today, most Americans don’t know how to perform CPR, the American Heart Association says.

Emergency responder groups aim to change that with Dec. 10 class on American Red Cross CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training. It will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Fire Station No. 4, 28711 Drake Road.

A $10 fee will cover the cost of the class and materials for residents of Farmington Hills and Farmington. The class and materials fee is $20 for non-residents. If you require a Certificate of Training, there will be an additional $10 fee for all participants.

The Farmington Hills/Farmington Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC), in cooperation with the Farmington Hills Fire Department, are offering the training.

Participants must register and pay fees one week in advance to ensure the proper student to instructor ratio.

Registration will be confirmed via email after the fee is received. Individuals who show up without paying the fee seven days in advance will be asked to wait and register for a future class. Participants must be at least 12 years old.
