Farmington Hills Couple Reports Road Rage Incident to Police

A Farmington Hills couple decided not to file charges, but still wanted a record of a "road rage" incident on Rhonswood Saturday afternoon. 

According to the report filed with , the man was driving and slowed on Rhonswood to turn left into the driveway of their home. He told police he did not use a turn signal. As he turned, he spotted a vehicle attempt to pass him on the left, and he stopped to avoid a collision, the report indicated. 

The other vehicle stopped as well, and the drivers exchanged words. When the Farmington Hills man got out of his vehicle, the other driver, later identified as being from Novi, threatened to run over the Farmington Hills man. The report noted that the Novi man, who was driving with two children in his car, eventually got out and a shoving match ensued. The Novi man left the scene and returned a short time later without the children. He parked in the Farmington Hills couple's driveway, but left before police arrived, the report said. The Farmington Hills couple gave police the man's license plate number. 

Thefts from vehicles

A resident on Haynes St. called police Saturday morning, after finding someone had taken tools and prescription drugs from his vehicle while it was parked in his driveway between 1 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. According to the report, the vehicle was left unlocked. 

Two residents on Rhonswood called police Sunday, after finding items taken from their vehicles, which were both left parked in the driveway and unlocked. According to the report, items taken included a Canon SLR camera, tools, a computer tuner, GPS and laptop computer. 

Narcotics arrests

A 26-year-old Wixom man faces charges of possessing synthetic narcotics after police stopped him while he was driving on Grand River at around 6 p.m. on Monday. According to the report, police stopped his vehicle after a check of the plate showed the driver had a number of outstanding warrants. A search of the vehicle turned up numerous Vicodin pills in a plastic bag. 

A 19-year-old Farmington Hills man faces charges of marijuana possession, having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, being a minor in possession of alcohol and driving with a suspended license, after he drove through a "Click It or Ticket" enforcement zone Monday evening, while not wearing a seat belt. According to the report, an officer standing in the median at W. 12 Mile and Bunker Hill walked up to the vehicle at a red light and asked the driver to pull over. The report indicated that the officer smelled fresh marijuana emanating from the driver, who eventually pulled a baggie of the drug from his crotch. A check of his background showed two traffic warrants and three current license suspensions, and the plates on the vehicle were found to be improper. 

A 20-year-old Farmington Hills man found walking between two hotels in the W. 12 Mile and Orchard Lake Rd. area Monday afternoon faces charges of heroin possession. According to the report, officers saw fresh track marks on the man's arm that appeared to be bleeding. They found a case containing capped hypodermic needles, a burned spoon and several folds of heroin in the man's rear pocket. 

The report of a theft from a vehicle at a bar on Eight Mile early on Aug. 15 resulted in charges of assault, larceny and marijuana possession against a 26-year-old woman from White Lake. According to the report, witnesses told police that a bartender who found her purse missing from her vehicle identified a suspect from a surveillance video. When the suspect came back into the bar, the bartender confronted her and she ran out of the building. The report indicated that the bartender gave chase, and eventually the two women ended up fighting. Officers found stolen items and a bag of marijuana in the White Lake woman's vehicle. 

Attempted theft

A resident returning to her home on Fredericksburg called police Aug. 14, after spotting a man crouched by the home's air conditioning unit. According to the report, the man ran when the woman honked her horn. He is described as 5'10", 175 lbs., wearing a navy blue baseball cap, blue jeans, a blue t-shirt and white shoes. There was no damage to the air conditioning unit, although a hammer that had been in the backyard was found near it. 

Breaking and entering

A resident on Nine Mile called police Aug. 15, after returning home to find the garage door open and broken glass on the front porch. According to the report, when police checked inside, they found the home in disarray. The homeowner reported three LCD television sets, a Nook e-book reader, prescription drugs, gaming consoles and a small safe, valued altogether at more than $4,000, missing. Officers noted that the front door appeared to have been forced open.

Drunken driving arrests

A 27-year-old Novi man faces charges of drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident, after his vehicle hit a large hotel sign at Grand River and 10 Mile early Sunday morning. According to the report, a witness called police after seeing the vehicle run a red light, veer off the road and strike the sign. Police found the driver walking about a quarter-mile from the scene. He appeared intoxicated, and a preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol level was .275, more than three times the .08 legal limit. A check of his record showed the man had one prior drunken driving conviction. 

A 42-year-old Farmington Hills man faces drunken driving charges, after police stopped his vehicle at Halsted and Grand River early Sunday morning because of a non-working brake light. According to the report, the officer noticed a strong odor of intoxicants; a preliminary breath test showed the man's blood alcohol level was .188, more than twice the .08 legal limit. The man was released from custody after his attorney posted bond. 

A 21-year-old Grand Rapids woman who thought she was on I-96 faces charges of drunken driving, after an officer stopped her vehicle early Saturday morning at M-5 and Halsted. According to the report, the officer saw the vehicle weaving on the road and noticed a strong odor of intoxicants while speaking with the driver. A preliminary breath tests showed her blood alcohol was .188, more than twice the .08 legal limit. 

A 28-year-old Hazel Park woman was taken to Botsford Hospital for evaluation early Friday morning, after a preliminary breath test showed her blood alcohol level was .31, which is nearly four times the .08 legal limit. According to the report, the woman's vehicle was stopped at Cora and Grand River, after police saw it moving slowly and weaving on the road. Paramedics had to rouse a passenger, who was also intoxicated, and police took her home. The driver was released after her family posted bond.
