Crime Report: 'Homeless' Man Turned Over to Plymouth Police on Warrants

officers checking on a report of a homeless man sleeping in a park at Waldron and Independence Sunday morning ended up turning the man over to Plymouth Police. 

According to the police report, the 47-year-old Brighton man told police he had been in the park only an hour, and that he lived in a trailer home not far from the park. He added that he was waiting for a friend to arrive for a Bible study. When police checked his background, they discovered outstanding warrants from Northville Police Dept. for driving on a suspended license and from Plymouth Police Dept. for drunken driving. 

Auto theft

A resident in the 22000 block of Purdue called police after someone drove his gray 2002 Ford Focus from its parking spot in front of his home Aug. 8. According to the report, the man was unsure whether he left a key inside the vehicle. He said his wallet and $50 in cash were inside. The report noted a number thefts from vehicles and attempted thefts from vehicles in that area around the same time. 

Drunken driving charged

A 32-year-old Clarkston woman faces a charge of drunken driving, after her vehicle was stopped at 12 Mile and Inkster at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. According to the report, an officer on patrol saw the vehicle crossing the center line a number of times and noticed a strong odor of intoxicants as he spoke with the driver. The woman said she had gotten into a bar fight with an ex-girlfriend, which her husband broke up. A preliminary breath test showed her blood alcohol was .10, which is more than the .08 legal limit. Her husband posted bond, and she was released. 

A 23-year-old Detroit woman faces a charge of drunken driving, after her vehicle was stopped at Halsted and Grand River Aug. 7. According to the report, a citizen called 911 about a possible drunken driver, and the officer who responded saw the vehicle weaving on the road. The officer noticed a strong odor of intoxicants while speaking with the driver, and a preliminary breath test measured her blood alcohol level at .258, more than three times the legal limit. 

A 53-year-old Southfield woman faces charges of drunken driving and interfering with a police officer, after officers responded to a report of a car off the road at Shiawassee and Ontaga at around 3 a.m. Monday. According to the report, officers found the vehicle stuck in the mud and the driver stumbling away from it. A preliminary breath test showed the woman's blood alcohol level was .17, more than twice the .08 legal limit. She refused to cooperate at the police station and attempted to hit an officer while she was being processed. 

Breaking and entering

A resident in the 23000 block of Springbrook Drive called police after arriving home Friday afternoon to find glass broken on the home's front door and a large concrete block sitting behind it. According to the report, a television set, video game console and games, two pairs of shoes, a remote control, vacuum, tools and a tool box were taken. Total value of the loss was nearly $3,000. 

Damage to property

Sometime between Aug. 11 and 13, someone sprayed chocolate syrup on a sports building at Power Upper Elementary School. According to the report, a glass block window was also damaged, but no one gained access to the building. 

Narcotics arrests

A 25-year-old Redford Township man faces a charge of possessing synthetic narcotics, after a traffic stop at M-5 and Drake on Sunday afternoon. According to the report, a license plate check of the man's vehicle showed there was no title information on file. While the driver was retrieving paperwork to show he recently purchased the vehicle, the officer spotted a prescription bottle inside the vehicle. While it turned out to contain legal substances, the five Vicodin pills found in the driver's side door pocket were illegal. The report indicated that the man told police the pills belonged to the previous owner, and he was released pending further investigation. 

A 40-year-old Macomb man faces charges of possessing cocaine after officers on patrol spotted a vehicle parked at a closed gas station at 12 Mile and Orchard Lake around 3:45 a.m. Sunday. According to the report, officers noticed the odor of intoxicants while speaking with the man, who told them he lives on the east side and made a wrong turn. A search of the vehicle turned up a bag containing cocaine. The man told police the drugs belonged to his girlfriend and had been in the car for three months, the report indicated. 

Theft from auto

A man who parked his vehicle in front of his condo in the 28000 block of Eight Mile Sunday night returned Monday morning to find someone had taken the car's GPS system. According to the report, the vehicle had been left unlocked.
