Crime Report: Rental Car Stolen from Apartment Complex Parking Lot

The following information was supplied by the Farmington Hills Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate a conviction.

A resident of an apartment complex on Tulane told Monday that a rented vehicle he parked in the complex lot was stolen sometime over the weekend. According to the report, the man had been renting the 1997 burgundy Plymouth from Save A Buck Auto in Redford for the past two months.

Thefts from autos

A resident on Crest Forest Drive told police Monday evening that someone took a small amount of loose change and a $200 Sirius XM satellite radio from her vehicle. According to the report, the vehicle was parked under a carport, and the doors were not locked. 

An elderly Farmington Hills woman told police that the license plate was stolen from her vehicle while she was at a hair salon at 11 Mile and Middlebelt on Saturday afternoon, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Narcotics arrests

A 26-year-old Romulus man faces charges of possessing Ecstasy and marijuana, after officers on patrol spotted his vehicle parked and running in the area of Independence and Oxford late Sunday night. According to the report, officers noticed a smell of burned marijuana as they approached the car, and the driver told them he and a female passenger had been smoking marijuana. A search of the vehicle turned up several small bags of marijuana and two purple pills, later identified as Ecstasy. The report indicated that the driver had five previous narcotics-related convictions, 12 current driver's license suspensions and an outstanding Detroit warrant for his arrest. The passenger was released on the advice of Allen Park police, who had issued a warrant for her arrest. 

A 42-year-old Farmington Hills woman faces charges of crack and narcotics paraphernalia possession, after officers on patrol spotted her vehicle  moving slowly on the shoulder of Northwestern Hwy. May 16. According to the report, officers noticed the woman had an unreadable "repeat offender" paper plate, and a check of her record showed a current license suspension and a warrant on narcotics charges. Police found the crack cocaine and glass pipe in a search of her vehicle.

A 16-year-old Farmington Hills student may be charged after police found marijuana in his vehicle while it was parked at North Farmington High. According to the report, a parking lot attendant reported suspicious activity to school administrators, who in turn called police. The report indicated that police spotted suspected marijuana in plain view through the passenger side window, and a marijuana pipe when they searched the vehicle. The teen was released to his mother, and in the report, the officer noted plans to forward the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.

Drunken driving arrest

A 22-year-old West Bloomfield woman faces charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol, following a traffic stop at 13 Mile and Drake early Sunday morning. According to the report, officers on patrol saw the woman's vehicle cross the center line and float in its lane. When the driver stopped, the report noted, she drove up over the curb and came within a few feet of hitting a mailbox. A preliminary breath test registered her blood alcohol at .15, almost twice the .08 legal limit.
