Driver Eludes Farmington Hills Police in High-Speed Chase on I-696

A Farmington Hills police officer involved in a high-speed chase early Tuesday on east I-696 learned the vehicle he pursued into Southfield originally fled police after a traffic stop in Wixom. 

According to the report, the officer initially spotted the silver Chevrolet Impala as he was using radar to check traffic speeds on the east entrance ramp at Orchard Lake Road. The officer clocked the vehicle traveling 90 miles per hour in the 70-mile-per-hour zone and attempted to stop it. The driver continued to the south M-10 ramp in Southfield, where the officer was ordered to stop the pursuit. He later learned that Wixom police had stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation in that community, but the driver took off after turning over his registration. 

Breaking and entering

A resident in the 24000 block of Lincoln Court called police early Saturday morning, after returning home to find someone had broken into his home. According to the report, $200 in cash and personal papers were taken from a floor safe. A video console also was taken. 

An officer conducting traffic enforcement on Rollcrest on Monday morning was notified by a building inspector that a home on the street had been forcibly entered. According to the report, the officer found the rear door handle broken and tool marks on the brass lock cover. The home is vacant and uninhabitable, and no new damage was seen inside. Police contacted the owner, who said he would secure the building. 

Wheelchair found

A woman called police early Monday afternoon, after finding a wheelchair left outside of St. Paul's Latvian Church on 12 Mile Road. According to the report, there were no markings on the chair that indicated to whom it belonged. 

Gunshot damages apartment

Police were called to an apartment building on Timber Ridge Circle on Monday morning after a resident reported a gunshot lodged in the exterior wall of her living room Sunday night. According to the report, the manager contacted the complex owner before calling police, and during that time, the resident who fired the gun repaired the damage to walls and painted. Police talked to the man, who said the gun accidentally discharged as he was moving items in his bedroom. He said he contacted his neighbor to make sure she wasn't hurt, then repaired the damage. Police confiscated the gun. 

Drunken driving

A 74-year-old Southfield man faces a drunken driving charge after police stopped his vehicle for speeding and driving erratically at about 5:40 p.m. Sunday on I-696 west of Drake. According to the report, the officer noticed a strong odor of intoxicants, and the driver admitted he had been drinking beer while watching the Detroit Lions game. A preliminary breath test showed the man's blood alcohol was .127. The legal limit to drive is .08.

Police were called to Farmington Hills Mobile Manor on Eight Mile at 3:53 a.m. Saturday, after a woman reported being hit by a car. According to the report, as officers arrived, they found two women, ages 47 and 26, fighting, and both appeared intoxicated. The 47-year-old woman told police the vehicle struck her on the leg, but she declined medical attention. The driver, who is the girlfriend of the older woman's son, said she "tapped" the woman as she was turning her vehicle to leave the park. A preliminary breath test showed the driver's blood alcohol level was .139. The legal limit to drive is .08.

Emailed threat

The head of security for 5 Hour Energy called police on Nov. 6 after the company received an anonymous email threatening the life of the company's owner. According to the report, the company was able to trace the email back to an IP address in Longwood, FL, and requested a check on the company owner's home address.
