Off-Duty Cop Acted in Self-Defense, His Chief Claims
A Lathrup Village police officer is under investigation after he allegedly hit a neighbor in the head Monday, killing him.

The chief police chief of an off-duty officer who is accused of killing his neighbor during an argument claims the law enforcement agent might have acted in self-defense, according to a Detroit News report.
The off-duty Lathrup Village police officer reportedly struck a 41-year-old Detroit man in the head Monday night during a cookout, the report stated. The man allegedly jumped the fence between houses in the 8500 block of Whitcomb Street in Detroit over a dispute, the report added.

Detroit police are investigating the incident, but Lathrup Village Police Chief William Armstrong told the Detroit News that the officer was defending himself.
Charges have not been filed, and the officer, who is on administrative leave, has not been identified. Police don’t believe the argument had anything to do with the officer’s occupation, the report stated.
