Making Hypertufa Planters, Creating Ceramic Pendants, Masonite Die Forming

Making Hypertufa Planters, Creating Ceramic Pendants, Masonite Die Forming -- Learn "how to" this Saturday when three of our makers demonstrate their techniques.

At 11:30 am Chris Hopp of Farmbrook Designs will blend Portland cement, peat moss, perlite and water to make hypertufa. Chris will show you how to mix hypertufa, choose and pack a suitable mold and cure the finished product for a durable and beautiful addition to any garden.

At 1:00 pm Ralph Paruszkiewicz of MetalicImages demonstrates the Masonite die forming techcnique used to form metal. The technique was founded at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts. It is mainly used to form metal for jewelry but can also be used for forming metal sculpture and hollow vessels. The dies can be used over again multiple times. Because of this it lends itself well to multiple production of jewelry and art metal but doesn't loose its handmade personality.

At 3:00 pm Melanie Brooks of Earthenwood Studio will be demonstrating how she makes her popular ceramic pendants using porcelain clay, a slab roller, and custom designed rubber stamps and cutters. She will be doing some hands on demonstration and discussing other parts of her process like kiln firing and glazing porcelain.
