This free parent and student forum is presented by the ACLU of Michigan Oakland County Branch and co-sponsored by the Farmington Area PTA Council, Farmington African American Parent Network and NAACP Southern Oakland County. The forum is open to parents, students and community members from Oakland County and surrounding communities.
The forum will explain students' rights and responsibilities in school discipline policies and processes. Parents and students will learn what "zero tolerance" really means. The presentation will also discuss new programs, such as Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS), school districts are implementing to education students on behavior expectations before an incident takes place.
Attendees will have an opportunity to submit questions to a panel as well as to meet individually with student advocates after the main presentation.
