(For immediate release) Β The weather outside may be cold and wintry, but First Presbyterian Church of Farmington has discovered the perfect antidote: an afternoon of hot jazz in the great traditions of swing giants Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, brought to life under the gifted hands of jazz legend Tad Weed and the TKW Trio! The celebration, which opens the 2012 portion of the churchβs Performing Arts Series, βGreat Performances in a Sacred Space,β takes place on Sunday, January 8, at 4:00 PM.

In the words of internationally-respected jazz critic and historian Leonard Feather, βTad Weed displays the rare ability to be able to effortlessly cross over from dashing be-bop lines to rich musical impressions and lush harmonies. He literally has all the jazz worldβs bases covered, from funky blues to the border of the avant-garde.β
Β
βFor twenty years,β adds Gerald Custer, music director at First Presbyterian, βTad toured nonstop with legendary bandleader Woody Herman and singers like Anita OβDay, Carmen McRae, Jack Jones, and Paul Anka, before finally returning to Michigan to make his home in nearby Ypsilanti. All I can say is that the roadβs loss is our gain, and that weβre absolutely delighted to be able to present Tad and his trio to our audiences here in Farmington.β
