Farmington Hills Fire Department Offers Car Seat Installation Inspections

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 75 percent of America's children riding in improperly installed car seats.

The Farmington Hills Fire Department is offering car-seat safety inspections next month to ensure car seats are properly installed.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates 75 percent of children are riding in car safety seats that aren’t properly installed or don’t fit correctly. Proper installation of car seats can greatly reduce injuries to children if a car accident occurs.

During the Oct. 4 inspection, nationally-certified child safety seat technicians will inspect all types of child car seats for proper installation and possible product recall. Appointments are being scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon at Fire Station No. 4, 28711 Drake Road. To make an appointment, call the Farmington Hills Fire Department headquarters at (248) 871-2800.

Residents who are unable to attend the car seat safety inspection can contact Fire Marshal Reggie Madeline of the Farmington Public Safety Department at (248) 474-5500 the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Novi Rehabilitation Center at (248) 305-7530 to schedule an inspection.
