Farmington Hills Firefighter Receives Top Award from Peers

Sgt. Dan Wecker, a paid-on-call firefighter, received the Instructor of the Year Award.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – Sgt. Dan Wecker, a paid-on-call firefighter with the Farmington Hills Fire Department, recently got a strong endorsement from his peers when he was named Instructor of the Year Award from the Society of Michigan Emergency Medical Services Instructor/Coordinators.

The prestigious award was presented at the SMEMSIC Professional Development Conference last month in Traverse City. Wecker was recognized for his accomplishments amd professionalism as an EMS educator, as well as for his contributions to the field and to the community as a whole.

Wecker, who is based out of Fire Station No. 4 at 28711 Drake Road, is an active member of the Farmington Hills/Farmington Emergency Preparedness Commission and teaches CPR/AED classes for the Fire Department, the Police Department, and members of the community.

He has been instrumental in the success of the Fire Department’s EMS Recruit Academy, where his students can boast of a 99 percent pass rate on the National Registry EMT Exam on their first attempt.

“Sgt. Wecker provides motivation and inspiration for all of our EMS instructors and students,” Farmington Hills Fire Chief Jon Unruh said in a news release. “He has made a tremendous contribution to the field of Emergency Medical Services.”

SMEMSIC, which has more than 500 members, is dedicated to supporting Emergency Medical Services (EMS) education and representing EMS professionals throughout the State of Michigan.
