Farmington Hills Firefighters Save Woman From Burning Home: Officials

Fire officials said a preliminary investigation showed the fire was accidental and not set intentionally.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — Firefighters saved a woman from her burning home Wednesday morning in Farmington Hills, fire officials said.

Firefighters found the 62-year-old woman trapped upstairs in her home at 21308 Waldron Street at 4:17 a.m. Wednesday morning, as a large fire roared on the first floor, officials said.

With the house engulfed in flames and visible black smoke rising in the window, firefighters immediately climbed a ladder and rescued the woman, officials said.

She was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills, where she was stable and placed in the regional burn center, officials said.

"A Farmington Hills resident was rescued and given the chance to survive a tragedy today due to the outstanding professionalism of dispatchers and the aggressive actions of first-arriving firefighters," Farmington Hills Fire Chief Jon Unruh said. "He added that the fire is currently under investigation but appears to be accidental in nature."

Since officials determined from a preliminary investigation the home did not have any fire working smoke alarms, they reminded residents to install working smoke alarms on each level of their home and to change the batteries whenever clocks are changed for Daylight Savings Time.
