Updated: Farmington Schools Clarify 'Stranger Danger' Report

School district says the Monday morning incident provides an opportunity for parents to talk to their children about talking to strangers.

The Farmington Hills Police Department has concluded after investigating that two elementary students who reported an incident of ”stranger danger” were never in harm’s way.

The initial report said they were approached by a white male who tried to coax them into a car. The investigation showed that a neighbor was trying to assist the children in getting safely to school.

After receiving an email from the district, the neighbor contacted the police department to clear up the situation, the district said.

Farmington Public Schools said in an email notification to parents that two Beechview Elementary students were approached Monday morning by a man who tried to coax them into a car.

The students ran home, where a parent was waiting. Both students are safe, and Farmington Hills police have been notified, the school said.

Beechview Elementary is located at 26850 Westmeath St. in Farmington Hills.

The suspect is white.

The school district concluded its email by encouraging parents to use the incident as a “teaching moment” about stranger danger.
