Farmington's Councilman Bill Galvin Announces Resignation

During the Monday, Dec. 16 City Council Meeting, Councilmember Bill Galvin publicly announced his resignation citing that he will be spending more time focused on family.

Galvin was elected to a 4–year term on City Council in November after serving since 2011 when he was appointed to council when Councilman Mike Wiggins resigned. Galvin served as the city’s mayor from 2013-17, he also served on the Downtown Farmington Parking Advisory Committee, Farmington/Farmington Hills Commission on Aging, South Oakland County Cable Commission and was an avid supporter of the Riley Park Ice Rink initiative.

“Councilman Galvin was the mayor when I was hired by the Council over four years ago. He took a lot of time helping me get acquainted and acclimated to the city,” said City Manager David Murphy. “I’ve enjoyed getting to know Bill and appreciate his commitment to the community.”

The next step is for City Council to accept the resignation at its Jan 6 meeting. At that time, the city will announce the process for filling the vacancy. The city will then have 60 days to appoint someone to the position, although a formal process has not yet been fully established.
