Firefighter Assaulted While Giving Emergency Care: Court

Felony assault charge filed after man allegedly injured himself after arrest, kicked and tried to bite firefighter giving aid.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – A Farmington Hills firefighter was assaulted Saturday while transporting a Southfield man to an area hospital, authorities said.

Justin Bartlett, 26, of Southfield was recently arraigned in 47th District Court on a felony assault charge, The Farmington Observer reports. He was released on bond, set at $10,000/10 percent.

Farmington Hills police said Bartlett was drunk when they picked him up on an outstanding warrant for fleeing and eluding police. According to the report, Bartlett injured himself after Livingston County deputies turned him over to Farmington Hills police.

The Livingston County deputy warned police that Barlett was beligerant and had attempted to urinate in the police car, and once in custody of Farmington Hills officials.

Police said that after Barlett injured himself, he nearly broke free of the restraints on an ambulance gurney, and yelled, kicked and grabbed at firefighters gving emergency care. At one point, he tried to bite one of the firefighters, according to the report.
