Ginger's Serves Up More Than Tea

A Farmington business owner's fundraiser benefits S.O.U.L.

Ginger Wiechers serves up more than tea at her café in downtown Farmington. There’s also a healthy dose of compassion and a portion of help for those in need.

While she owns and operates at 32905 Grand River Ave., she also heads a charity that extends help to people in the community.

But funds are low, and Wiechers said she hopes the promise of good food, lovely dresses, jewelry, and handbags will tempt people to attend Body & Soul Fashion show 2-4 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at the café.

“Eight years ago, I decided to establish a non-profit for people in need,” the soft-spoken Wiechers said. “The idea was born through the inspiration that all my life I’ve been helping people, and I just needed to provide some structure.”

That was the beginning of the Source Of Universal Love (S.O.U.L.), a non-profit organization whose goal is to help transform the lives of individuals and families in adverse situations.

And there are many. “We have a lot more requests than we do resources,” Wiechers added. “Just last year, we helped three families whose homes had burned to the ground.”

The families were encouraged to go through the S.O.U.L. resale shop at 31632 Grand River Avenue in Farmington and choose what they needed from among the clothing and household goods.

It’s just one of hundreds of stories Wiechers can tell about helping others improve their lives and reach their potential. The March 19 fundraiser is designed to keep that effort going.

Ginger’s Café will provide a high tea with scones and cream and assorted sandwiches and teas, along with fashions from the resale shop or straight from the closets of the women modeling the outfits. Tickets are $25 and are available at the restaurant.

Not to be left out is Ginger’s daughter Kim, a student in Fashion Design at Wayne State University, who will donate one of her creations.

Also at the show will be accessories from in Farmington, Brit Chic Designs, Lydia Maes, and , S.O.U.L. Resale Shop, Blessed and Beautiful Fashion accessories.
