Police Investigating Overnight Freeway Shooting In Oakland County

No one was injured in the shooting after a driver told police he heard four or five shots from an SUV, according to Michigan State Police.

SOUTHFIELD, MI — Police are investigating an early Thursday morning freeway shooting in Oakland County.

A driver and a passenger told state troopers someone fired shots at them in the westbound lanes on Interstate 696 near Evergreen Road in Southfield, according to Michigan State Police.

The driver told troopers he was driving in the left lane on the freeway at 12:45 a.m. when a speeding, white SUV pulled up behind him, according to Michigan State Police.

The driver told police he moved over to the middle lane, and then the SUV slowed down next to them, according to Michigan State Police.

That's when the driver and his passenger saw a man pointing a gun at them, according to Michigan State Police.

The driver and his passenger then heard four or five shots coming from the white SUV, according to Michigan State Police.

No one was injured in the shooting and the victim driver pulled off the freeway at the Orchard Lake Road exit, while the SUV continued driving west on the freeway, according to Michigan State Police.

Troopers did not find any bullet holes in the victim's vehicle. The freeway was shut down for hours as troopers investigated the shooting, but has since reopened.
