I-696 Weekend Closure: You Can't Get There From Here

Actually, you can get where you're going, but not the way you've always gone. Here's a suggested detour.

METRO DETROIT, MI – If your weekend travel plan includes westbound Interstate 696 from Lahser Road in Southfield to Interstate 275 in Farmington Hills, change it.

That westbound section of I-696 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, May 20, through 5 a.m. Monday, May 23, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

In an advisory, MDOT said: "All entrance ramps from Lahser Road, Telegraph Road and Orchard Lake to westbound I-696 will be closed."

The detour takes westbound traffic to the Lodge Freeway. MDOT suggests taking Lodge south to Telegraph to west Eight Mile Road to west M-5 to west I-96.

Another I-696 weekend closure is planned before completion of that piece of a $75 million I-275 reconstruction project.
