Local Woman Recognized for Service

Presbyterian Church of Farmington recognizes Laura Wilkinson Hedgecock

Each year First Presbyterian Church of Farmington honors a woman who generously gives of herself serving the church and her community by awarding a Lifetime Membership in Presbyterian Women. This year’s recipient, Laura Hedgecock, shares her boundless energy and faith here and throughout the world.

Over the past 25 years served twice as an elder providing leadership and sitting on various committees. She is a member of A.C.T.S. circle, and currently Chairs the Communication Committee. She is the church webmaster and over the years has served as the President/chairperson of the Farmington Presbyterian Preschool, was involved in LOGOS, chaperoned on the youth group mission trip, assisted Presbytery of Detroit with website development, volunteered for South Oakland Shelter and at C.A.R.E.S; was co-chair of Youth United. In addition she served in Presbyterian Woman positions including being past moderator, and she has shared her acting abilities in annual Christmas plays over the years. Last December you saw her as the free-spirited Noelle in Christmas Unwrapped.

Her skills in grant writing has enabled this church to secure a grant for former pastor Sue Melrose’s sabbatical to India, and two grants for Youth United program here in Farmington.

Beyond our walls, Laura is a respected genealogist and author. Her book, Memories of Me: A Complete Guide to Telling and Sharing the Stories of Your Life is a must have amongst budding genealogists. Recently she was selected as Ambassador for the RootsTech convention in London, England October 24-26, 2019. Laura maintains a blog entitled Treasure Chest of Memories.
