Longtime Botsford Hospital microbiologist chosen for lab award

Farmington Hills resident honored

Karen Faine, a microbiologist at Botsford Hospital, is the recipient of the 2014 Joseph H. Langnas, D.O. Memorial Laboratory Enrichment Award. Faine, a Farmington Hills resident, was selected by members of the laboratory staff for this honor.

The award was presented to Faine by Gil Herman, M.D., Ph.D., Botsford’s director of Laboratory Medicine and chairman of Pathology. Botsford’s Department of Laboratory Services hosted the award ceremony, which was attended by Faine’s husband, her coworkers, several physicians, members of the Langnas family and hospital leadership.

This award honors Faine for outstanding performance of her duties for more than for 45 years since the day she was hired by Joseph Langnas, D.O., who was Botsford Hospital’s medical director of Laboratory Services and chairman of its Pathology Department. Dr. Langnas passed away in 2005. Dr. Langnas’ family established this annual award to support the attendance of a Botsford Hospital lab employee at a professional society educational meeting. Faine attended the South Central Association of Clinical Microbiologists conference this spring.
