New Farmington Hills Gym Offers High Energy Boxing Workout

Opened in February, Title Boxing Club has seen steady growth as clients spread the word about the unique regimen.

Title Boxing Club, one of the nation's fastest growing franchises, is also growing in Farmington Hills.

The club on Haggerty just south of 14 Mile Road has drawn around 200 members since opening in late February. Owner Ashok Kumar said he and his wife invested in a franchise because they liked the business model and learned the work-out is "amazing".

"When I did it and my wife it, we were sold on it," he said. "It is very different. People will even keep their other memberships and come here as well."

Instructors take clients through a fast-moving routine that combines punching a body bag with exercises like jumping jacks and lunges, to build core strength.

"When your heart is pumping, that's the best time to work your core," Kumar said, adding many athletes in other sports use boxing to stay fit. "Boxing engages the most muscle groups in the body, second only to swimming."

Most of Title Boxing Club's clientele are women, Kumar said. Lisa Emerson, who works the front desk, was drawn to the club while living in Missouri. She grew up in Michigan, and after she moved back, she was thrilled to learn a franchise was opening in her home state.

"Each trainer has their own flavor, but the structure is the same," Emerson said. "It's so important with working out that you have to mix it up, or you'll get bored. Muscle confusion is crucial in any regimen."

Trainers at Title Boxing Club are boxers or mixed martial arts fighters, so they bring their professional form and technique to the club, Kumar said. The club is open to all ages, members range from children to seniors. The club strives for family-friendly atmosphere, he added, even screening the music that accompanies routines to ensure it's appropriate for all ages.
