New Qdoba Opens Monday on Orchard Lake in Farmington Hills

The larger-than-usual restaurant offers specials this week and plans community involvement in Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield.

A new Qdoba in Hunters Square shopping center at 14 Mile and Orchard Lake in Farmington Hills is a bit larger than most among the company's 25 Michigan restaurants.

But that, and the faces behind the counter, are where the differences end, says Qdoba regional marketing specialist Jessica Waugh.

"That's what we strive for, the same quality product in all of our locations," she said.

The restaurant officially opens Monday, and the first 25 people in line at 10:30 a.m. will receive a free entreé. The celebration continues Tuesday, as the first 25 people receive a rewards card with up to 25 free entrees. On Saturday, customers can pick up queso and chips for just 25 cents, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at all locations.

Why the obsession with the number 25?

"To celebrate our 25th location in eastern Michigan," Waugh explained, adding that the Farmington Hills store is also among 10 opened in Michigan over the past two years. Qdoba has more than 600 locations in 42 states, including franchises.

Waugh said Qdoba is community-oriented and plans to reach out not only into the Farmington Hills area, but also West Bloomfield. Marketing specialist Nick Azzopardi said the restaurant plans to serve lunch to teachers at West Bloomfield High School, as a back-to-school/teacher appreciation event later this month.

At each location, a menu of Mexican food is prepared as customers watch. Waugh said the food starts out fairly mild in terms of spice; customers can add heat with sauces and salsas. There are gluten-free and vegetarian options; all beans and even the tortilla soup are vegetarian.

The restaurant is still taking employment applications, Waugh said.

Correction: The new Qdoba is the 25th location in eastern Michigan and among 10 opened in Michigan over the past two years.
