Pit Bull Shot After Killing Smaller Dog

The dog escaped from an open window, scaled a fence and attacked a small dog.

A Farmington Hills police officer shot and killed a pit bull Thursday, June 4, after it reportedly escaped from its home and killed a smaller dog.

The Observer & Eccentric reports that the owner of the smaller dog, a chihuahua-pinscher mix, was in the yard with her small child and two other dogs when the pit bull escaped through an open window in a neighbor’s house, jumped a fence and killed the dog.

The incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. in the 22500 block of Tulane, near Nine Mile and Middlebelt roads.

The woman reportedly secured her child and other dogs inside the house. Then, assisted by a neighbor, she tried to ward off the attack by hitting the aggressive dog with sticks. The pitbull had the smaller dog in its mouth, and was violently shaking it and chewing on its neck when police arrived.

The pit bull was killed by a single shot fired by an officer standing 10 feet away, according to the report.
