Presidential Candidates in Michigan Ahead of March 8 Primary

Republicans will debate March 3 in Detroit; Democrats debate March 6 in Flint.

METRO DETROIT, MI – With Super Tuesday behind them, several presidential candidates have rallies and events planned in Michigan, which holds its primary March 8.

Republican candidates will gather at 9 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Fox Theatre in Detroit for the Fox GOP Debate moderated by Bret Baier, Chris Wallace and Megyn Kelly.

Before the debate, several of them have scheduled campaign rallies.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has a rally at 4;30 p.m. Wednesday at the Palazzo Grande in Shelby Township.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich is holding three events in Michigan Wednesday: a 10:30 a.m. event in Ann Arbor, a 3 p.m. town meeting in Genesee County, and a 6 p.m. rally at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Warren.

Kasich also plans events in Ottawa County and Traverse City on Friday and Saturday, respectively, and a 1:30 p.m. Monday rally in Grosse Pointe Woods.

Real estate tycoon Donald Trump has two rallies scheduled in Michigan Friday, a 9 a.m. rally in Warren at Macomb Community College and a 1 p.m. rally in Cadillac at the Wexford Civic Center.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz doesn’t have any campaign events scheduled in Michigan, nor does retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, a Detroit native. Carson is reaching out to his rivals for the nomination and asking them to restore civility to a campaign marked by harsh rhetoric and refrain from personal attacks in Thursday’s debate.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is trying to pull off a historic upset in the Democratic primary, has a rally planned for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Breslin Student Events Center at Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is expected to win Democrats’ nomination, doesn’t have any events planned in Michigan ahead of Sunday’s CNN Democratic debate in Flint, where an unknown number of people have been exposed to dangerous levels of lead in the city’s drinking water supply.
