Redford Union Schools Stuckey Center's Susan Porter Honored
School Social Worker's Dedication Honored by WXYZ and Ann Marie's All Stars
Redford Union School District announced that Stuckey Center School Social Worker, Mrs. Susan Porter, was named an Ann Marie’s All Star by WXYZ reporter Ann Marie LaFlamme as part of the station’s Ann Marie’s All Stars initiative, which recognizes outstanding individuals working in schools who go above and beyond.
Stuckey Center high school senior Spencer Brooks nominated Mrs. Porter for the recognition in a poignant email he sent to Ms. LaFlamme at WXYZ. According to Ms. LaFlamme, “The purpose of Ann Marie’s All Stars is to recognize the unsung heroes in our schools. Spencer’s letter got my attention because Mrs. Porter has made such a significant impact on his life. This is the first time we have honored a school social worker.”
“Mrs. Porter exemplifies the commitment the district has to its students. We are proud of the well-deserved recognition she is receiving for her unwavering dedication towards positively impacting students’ lives,” stated Redford Union School District Superintendent, Dr. Sarena Shivers.
In his email to LaFlamme, Brooks cited Mrs. Porter’s ability to always make him smile, even when he didn’t want to; the time and interest she devotes to her students and the sometimes tough advice she gives; all of which have made an impact on Brooks and the lives of the other students.
