Shirt Box Anniversary Gala to Raise Funds for Prostate Cancer Research
The Farmington Hills men's boutique clothing store celebrates 30 years in business.

The Shirt Box, a Farmington Hills menβs fashion boutique, will say thank you for its three bustling decades in business on Sept. 22, with a gala fund-raising event outside the store.
Open to the public from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m., the event will raise money for Michigan Institute of Urology Run for the Ribbon, a non-profit effort to educate about prostate health and provide treatment and screenings for men in Southeast Michigan.
βOur anniversary, like our daily mission, is a celebration of men,β Ron Elkus, the shop founder and co-owner with Rod Brown, said. βIn 30 years of providing fashion to the men of metro Detroit, The Shirt Box has always supported the surrounding community. The best β and only β way we can show gratitude is by giving back to those who have given us so much.β

The event will honor Wall Street Journal reporter and author Jeff Zaslow and WJBK Channel 2 anchor Huel Perkins, both of whom are Shirt Box shoppers.Β
βThe Shirt Box has always made the men of Southeast Michigan look good β and now theyβre helping us feel good, too,β Zaslow said. He and Perkins will speak at the event, as will Dr. Michael Lutz, partner in the Michigan Institute of Urology.

βOne in six men in the U.S. will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime,β Lutz said. βIt is the most common non-skin malignancy and second leading cause of death in men. Itβs one of those diseases that if you can prevent it, great, and if you can help reduce it, great. Our goal is to make sure nobody dies from this disease.β
βRon Elkus is an amazing guy β one of the most community-driven people I know,β Lutz added. βItβs a wonderful thing to partner with him and help make our mission a success.β
βSince our focus has always been helping men look and feel their best, it was our goal and hope to partner with a worthy menβs-health charity so that our anniversary celebration became a celebration of life for our customers,β Elkus said.
Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Reserve your spot on the Run for the Ribbon website.
