Shirt Box Collects Donations of 'Gently Used' Clothing to Help Needy Men

The Farmington Hills clothier partners with the Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO) to provide unemployed men with professional clothing for interviews.

is, for a fifth year, partnering with the Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO) to help men in need. Β 

The Farmington Hills-based retailer is asking metro Detroiter’s to donate gently used professional clothing so unemployed men can feel confident towards employers during interviews. Donors will receive an extra $5 off each item purchased for every donated item on a one-for-one basis, through April 30.Β

β€œWe are looking forward to partnering with NSO for the fifth consecutive year and be part of a program that assists men who are trying their best to get back to work,” said co-owner Ron Elkus. β€œEven with the economy improving, there are still some out there who are unemployed and we want to do our best to make sure they are looking sharp for their upcoming interviews.”

Customers are encouraged to bring in used dress shirts, slacks, ties and sports coats, to help the nonprofits’ clients dress for success when applying for new jobs and making the transition back into the workforce.

NSO is a nonprofit human service agency that strengthens and empowers communities, keeps families together, and helps people in need through a diverse array of programs and services. Β Many programs work with individuals on a daily basis to help them overcome personal obstacles and prepare for potential job interviews.Β

The Shirt Box/NSO partnership started as a temporary way to assist metro Detroit jobseekers build confidence by dressing for success. The Shirt Box has helped clothe thousands of people and the program has grown significantly into an annual partnership.

Donations can be made year-round at The Shirt Box, 32500 Northwestern Highway in Farmington Hills, open Monday-Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. and Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m.
